Welcome to Motes Farm, home of ABACA Nubians, located in Stillwater, Oklahoma. ABACA Nubians consists of a herd of purebred and american Nubian dairy goats dual registered with the American Dairy Goat Association (ADGA) and the American Goat Society (AGS). We are ADGA Plus members, participating in DHIR, Linear Appraisal, and showing in Oklahoma, Kansas, North Texas and Missouri. On our farm, we also grow fruits and vegetables that we sell at the Stillwater Farmers’ Market. Our family was founding members of the market and has participated for over 36 years!
Our family started our goat adventure in 2013, with a small herd of mixed breed goats. While we enjoyed the goats and the work they did around the farm helping clear brush, our oldest daughter wanted to start showing. We were told about a ADGA sanction show about an hour from our farm in May 2015. We attended that first show as spectators and saw some of the most beautiful does we had ever seen. One particular herd caught our eye and we fell in love with their style of Nubians. The breeders were so nice to talk with us and allow our daughters to pet their goats. That first interaction with that breeder had us hooked and in no time, we were purchasing two ADGA registered does from Kris Lackey of Chigger-Hill Nubians in Texas. We sold off all the other goats and began to focus on our new herd. We joined ADGA and one of the first steps of membership was creating a herd name. After brainstorming ideas, we finally decided to create our herd name as an acronym of our names (rearranged), Brian, Christy, Addison, Ashlee and Ashton, to form ABACA. The girls still like to argue over who’s ‘A’ is first.
We are so grateful we met Kris and Ron that day. They have been amazing mentors and friends. Our herd is built firmly on Chigger-Hill genetics, with all of our does, except one descending from Kris’s herd. We are thankful they trusted us as beginners and have been there for us through the years. We truly cherish the Lackeys!
We maintain a CAE negative herd and test yearly. All kids are pulled at birth, fed heat treated colostrum, and pasteurized milk to prevent milk-borne diseases.
